5th Annual Martin County Fair Regional 4-H/FFA Livestock Show

General Rules:

 

Eligibility to Show:

 

The exhibitor must be a 4-H or FFA member in good standing in the county or FFA Chapter within a 75 mile radius of Fairmont, MN. 

 

The County 4-H programs that are eligible are as follows:

In Minnesota: Nobles, Murray, Redwood, Cottonwood, Jackson, Watonwan, Brown, Martin, Nicollet, LeSueur, Blue Earth, Faribault, Waseca, Freeborn, Steele, Mcleod, Scott, Renville, Lyon, Dodge, and Mower.

 

In Iowa: Osceola, OBrien, Dickinson, Clay, Palo Alto, Emmet, Kossuth, Winnebago, Hancock, Cerro Gordo, Worth, Mitchell, Buena Vista, Humbolt, Pocahontas, Webster, and Wright.

The eligible FFA Chapters are as follows:

 

In Minnesota: Fulda, Westbrook, Okabena, Windom, Springfield, Mountain Lake, Sleepy Eye, New Ulm, Nicollet, St. James, Madelia, Lake Crystal, LeCenter, Waterville, Jamesville, New Richland, Mapleton, Wells, Alden, Albert Lea, Emmons, Blue Earth, Truman, Martin County West, Jackson, Sioux Valley, Worthington, Murray County Central, Tracy, Wabasso, Buffalo Lake, Nicolett, Sibley East, Montgomery-Lonsdale, Cleveland, Blooming Prairie, Medford, Fairbault, 
and Austin.

 

In Iowa: Harris, Ocheyedan, Spencer, Milford, Estherville, Graettinger, Algona, Buffalo Center, Britt, Corwith, Garner, Ventura, Forest City, Lake Mills.

 

Entries:

 

1 - Entries must be made on the entry form found in the Premium Book or on the website and entries must be postmarked by August 1, 2009.

 

2 - The entry blank must be signed by your local 4-H Extension Educator or FFA Advisor verifying the entries are official 4-H or FFA projects.

 

3 - All entries must be accompanied by the appropriate entry fee payable to the Martin County Fair. These entry fees are nonrefundable.

 

4 - Entry Fees will be as follows:

 

Market Cattle $15 per head
Breeding Heifers $15 per head
Sheep $5 per head
Feeder Calves $15 per head
Hogs $5 per head

 

5 - All fees will be paid back as class money on a prorate basis on the number of entries in each class.

 

6 - Supreme Champions will be selected in all the following divisions and paid the premium listed below

7- Sheep and swine must be on the fairgrounds and available for check-in by 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2009.  Release time for sheep and swine will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 23, 2009 except for the hogs, which will load out for the packer at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.

 

The rabbits will check in at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009.

 

Beef must be on the fairgrounds by 12:00 (noon) Saturday, August 22, 2009 and released after the show on Sunday, August 23, 2009.

 

Beef cattle or market lambs shown in the regional show will also have the opportunity to show in the "Kim Shoen Classic" steer and heifer show on Saturday and the "Sweepstakes" market lamb show on Sunday.

 

8 - It will be mandatory to use wood shavings for the beef cattle bedding. Wood shavings are available at the fairgrounds at a cost of $8 per head. Tie-outs are available at no cost.

 

9 - Any artificial means of removing or remedying physical defects or conformation in animal's exhibits will be considered fraud and deception.  Hair or hair-like substances can not be added or the hair color changed on an animal.  These items will be grounds for disqualification and forfeiture of all premiums/awards.

 

Division 1A - Beef Cattle

All cattle classes will be further broken down by age, breed and/or weight as entries warrant.

 

Division 1B - Swine

 

Breeding Gilt -  Market Gilt  - Market Barrow

All market swine entries will be shown by weight and the breeding gilts by age. All Swine must have their herd premise ID number listed on their ear tag.

Division 1C - Sheep

Lot 1 - Ewe Lamb born after September 1, 2008

Lot 2 - Yearling Ewe born after September 1, 2007 and before August 31, 2008

Lot 3 - Ram Lamb born after September 1, 2007

Lot 4 - Yearling Ram born after September 1, 2007 and before August 31, 2008

Lot 5 - Market Lambs

Lot 6 - Slick Shorn Ewe Lamb Class

Lot 7 - Slick Shorn Yearling Ewe

All sheep classes will be further broken down by age, breed and/or weight as entries warrant.

 

Division 1D - Rabbits

 

Members must have owned, raised and kept a feed record prior to May 15 on the rabbit shown. On a fryer or meat pen, the does producing the fryers must have been owned by the members since May 15. No signs on pens will be permitted. each rabbit must be clearly and permanently tattooed in the left ear for identification purposes. tattoo definitions must show ink below skin and must be readable. NO PERMANENT MARKER OR INK IS ACCEPTABLE. Ownership affidavit or lease agreement, must be submitted by the State Fair entry due date. Rabbits that do not meet I.D. requirements will receive no higher than a blue ribbon.

 

Rabbits will begin check in at  8:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 in the Poultry Building on the Martin County Fairgrounds.  The show will begin at 1:00 p.m.

 

The rabbit entry fee will be $2.50 per rabbit. Entries will be limited to two per lot for each exhibitor. Entries must be postmarked by August 6, 2009. All fees will be paid back as class money on a prorate basis based on the number of entries in each class, and Plus Premiums on Supreme and Reserve Supreme Champion rabbits.

 

Supreme Champion - $150.00, Reserve Champion - $75.00

 

Two entries per class, maximum of three breeds, not to exceed twelve rabbits per exhibitor. All rabbits must be tattooed permanently and legibly in the left ear prior to the fair. Rabbits must be owned and identified by May 15. Please send copy of affidavit of ownership or lease agreement with entry form. All breeds recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association are eligible Rabbits will be judged according to ARBA standards.

Small Breed (4 Class) rabbit breeds include Dutch, Holland Lop, Jersey Wooly, Mini Lop, American Fuzzy Lop, American Sable, Dwarf Hotot, English Angora, French Angora, Satin Angora, Belgian Hare, Britannia Petite, Standard Chinchilla, English Spot, Netherland Dwarf, Florida White, Harlequin, Havana, Himalayan, Lilac, Rhinelander, Silver, Silver Marten, Polish, Tan.

Large Breed (6 Class) rabbit breeds include New Zealand, Satin, American Giant Angora, Beveren, Californian, Champagne D'argent, Checkered Giant, American Chinchilla, Giant Chinchilla, Cinnamon, Creme D'argent, Flemish Giant, Hotot, English Lop, Palomino and Silver Fox.

 

All entry fees are final and non-refundable. Animals found to be unhealthy will be removed from the arena. All rabbits must be permanently tattooed in the left ear.

 

 

DIVISION C - MN STATE HAMPSHIRE SHEEP SHOW

1.  MN Hampshire Show exihibits must be in place by 12:00 noon on Friday, August 21.

2.  The Show will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22.

3.  All exhibits will be released at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23.

4.  The entry fee is 2.00 per head in individual classes - no added fee for groups.

5.  Entry mailing deadline is August 1, 2009.

1.  MN Dorset Show exhibits must be in place by 12:00 noon on Friday, August 21.

2.  The show will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21.

3.  All exhibits will be released at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23.

4.  The entry fee is $2:00 per head in individual classes - no added fee for groups.

5.  Entry mailing deadline is August 1, 2009.

DIVISION E - SHEEP

 

Superintendents:  Tom Zehnder, Steve Pomerenke, Curt Luetgers and Mike Tonne

 

1.  Premiums will be paid on out-of-county entries. (Refer to MN State Livestock Sanitary Req.)

2.  Sheep exhibits must be in place by 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 18. Entry fee $3.00 per head.

3.  The base date for computing ages will be Sept. 1.

4.  All sheep one year and over to be eligible to show must have been shorn within the calendar year. On demand of the superintendent, exhibitors may be required to give date of last shearing together with affidavit of same.

5.  If 3 or more animals of a recognized breed, a new class will be started.

6.  If less than 3 animals are registered, at the superintendent's discretion, they may be comingled into a single class.

7.  If 5 or more are entered, premium will be $1.00 over number of sheep entered per lot. if 10 or more are entered, sliding scale applies.
